Today, on the way home, the bus was crowded. It was one of those new buses, where there are four yellow seats to the right between the entrance and exit. Above these yellow seats are stickers announcing that these were priority seats reserved for the elderly, pregnant and disabled. So today, the bus was crowded. An old woman boarded the bus together with all the other working class people. All seats were taken up. All four priority seats, too, taken up - no less, by young people or at least healthier and stronger people. The old woman moves to stand right in front of the seats, in front of the four young people sitting beneath the "priority seat" stickers. None of them move.
What is becoming of Singapore?
The old woman eventually gets her seat when a young woman alighted.
The world is black, and hearts are cold. Maybe it's how everyone is chasing money? Or the meritocracy - I earned my seat and you, old woman, did not.
One day, those four people are going to grow old and frail, and no one would probably give up their seat for them. Then they are going to remember how they were like this too when they were young.
No one cares, no one's there, I guess we're all just too damn busy. Money's our first priority, it doesn't make sense to me.
